My Stance on Gen AI
Generative Artificial Intelligence - Gen AI - has dominated conversations since it came into the spotlight in late 2022 with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. As a writer and creator, I feel obligated to share my stance on these tools. They can - and will, and do - have major impacts on creative jobs. They put out poor results, plagiarize authors’ (and other’s) works, and take away from our uniquely human ability to create art.
My promise to you
I have never used, and will never use, Gen AI tools for any artistic writing. My book, my blog, vignettes, reviews, interviews - none of it. 100% of my writing on Rowan the Writer is from my heart and soul. That will never change.
In the spirit of transparency…
Out of self-preservation, I’ve deep dived into when, where, and how to appropriately use Gen AI tools in my day job. I’m an industry expert and public speaker on the topic of Gen AI for marketing communications. I work in the communications field, and foresee a future where communicators in business settings must rely heavily on generative tools in order to stay relevant in the industry. I advocate for the ethical use and deployment of Gen AI, and encourage leaders to adopt these tools thoughtfully, carefully, and ethically.
I may or may not come back to this page to expand my thoughts on the subject. My entire field changes from day to day and I am perpetually exhausted trying to keep up. Cheers.
